Conference Track Meet

May 13th, 2007 by Andy Wyss

The Golden Bears competed this weekend at the 2007 NSIC outdoor conference track meet in Moorhead, Minnesota. Both the men and women permormed above their expectations and did extremely well. The Men’s team won six events and finished fourth overall, while the women finished seventh. Kawaskii Bacon won the 100m and 200m dashes, Kyle Warren won the 1500m run in a record-setting time of 3:55.95, Tre Sayles won the triple jump with a school-record leap of 46-10 3/4, and the Bears claimed the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

On a personal note, I was extremely pleased with how the meet went. This meet was the last career meet for our seniors, and I was sad to see some of my good friends and teammates run for the last time in a Golden Bear uniform. Kyle Warren is really an inspiration to me. Before coming to Concordia he had never ran track before, and in his final meet, he re-broke his own school record in the 1500m run and anchored the winning 4×400m relay team. Adrian Perryman, who is one of the best friends I’ve made at CU, always competes above the rest. After missing the first day of competition because of graduation, AP ran in the conference winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams. I look up to Perryman and Warren more than anybody else on the team because of how they carry themselves, how they interact with other teammates, and how they dominate their events. They win and they do it with class. I am surely going to miss them, as well as the other seniors.

I only competed in the triple jump this weekend, however I set a new personal record and stepped up to the competion. I had three jumps over 43′, with my best jump at 43′ 07″. That jump earned me fourth place in the NSIC triple jump. I was incredibly proud to represent Concordia and to earn points for my team.
