“Flying car goes to market”
A Boston-area company plans to begin flight tests this year of a two-seater airplane that moonlights as a car. The illustration shows the aptly-named Transition aircraft, wings partially unfolded, as it shifts from road-worthy to air-worthy. The vehicle carries a price tag of $194,000. You sit down behind the steering wheel, drive to the runway, unfold two wings and take off. You can fly 500 miles on a tank of gas — regular unleaded — and when you land, you simply fold up the wings and drive where you want to go. At the end of the day, you fly back, drive home and park inside your garage. Read the whole story here!
Well, we’re on the home stretch of the Fall 2008 semester. Actually, I believe there’s only four weeks left! It’s crazy how fast it’s gone, but I’ve been plenty busy. Track and Field is fully underway and we have our first meet in just a few weeks at MSU-Mankato. I’ve also been busy with classes, working for the Theater & Video Production staffs here on campus, and even occasionally writing for The Sword this semester. Even though it’s been a good semester, I’m anxiously awaiting WINTER BREAK!
The Concordia University intramural football season is now complete. On Sunday October 19th, four teams competed in the playoff finals to determine the overall champion. My team, the undefeated “Trackstars,” were going against the increasingly dominant “Why So Serious?” team. The game was rough and featured several heated arguments, but in the end only one team could be crowned the 2008 CU Intramural Football champs. The score remained tight until the final five minutes of play, when my team pulled ahead to take the title. The winning team consists of myself (captain Andy Wyss), fellow senior Tre Sayles, juniors Adam LeMay and Brian Kohlman, sophomores Kevin Koglin, Britt Bickert, and Andy Chaussee, DCE Intern (and my wife) Jayme Wyss, and alumni Joseph “Slim” Amundson. It was really great getting to play with all those guys. I love them all and wish the best of luck to everyone as the CU student body continues a successful intramural year.
The 2008 Concordia University homecoming is just around the bend….this weekend, in fact. It seems like it’s going to be a busy weekend for everybody on campus. On Thursday, the theater students are hosting their annual “Shakespeare Under The Stars” reading. I’ve never gone to it in the past, but I might consider it this year, mostly because I designed the poster for it, and has peaked my interest. Then there’s a volleyball game on Friday, followed by a Saturday full of events. A special chapel, noon football game, alumni art exhibit, street fair/carnival, and another volleyball game to cap off the weekend. So, it should be a lot of fun! I am ending up having to work at most of the games, so I probably won’t get to enjoy all the festivities, but hopefully the rest of you do!
Well, I’m glad to be back….
The CU campus has never looked better in my opinion, and I have never been more excited for a school year than this year! The grounds look great, the grass is a vibrant green, lots of new faces, high hopes for academics, athletics, and extra-curriculars, and a great year in sight. I had a rather busy summer, getting married and all… Read the rest of this entry »
This is a new segment entitled “Wyss’ Pieces” featured on my campus television show “Concordia Spotlight.” In this episode, I wanted to test the geography knowledge of the students here at Concordia. The results were stunning to say the least!
I really don’t know what to think about this weather. It’s the middle of April and we’re still expecting snow. It’s only been over 60 degrees once so far this year. Our track team has had two out of three meets cancelled, and we’re on the verge of cancelling another this weekend. I just can’t believe the winter is still lasting this long. Well this year’s Spring Break is fairly disappointing on many levels. First and foremost is the weather. It is certainly not Spring, nor does it feel like it. In fact, Spring Break is even earlier this year than most. Secondly, I’m stuck here on campus while everyone else is off enjoying their free week. The baseball, softball, and golf teams went to Florida, meanwhile the Track and Basketball teams are here getting ready for the upcoming games and meets. Speaking of which, our indoor conference track meet is this Friday and Saturday in Bemidji….wish me luck!
We are now four weeks into the second semester and things are very well so far! My classes haven’t really gotten hard yet, but I can see the work load a-coming! Myself and the track team have done really well so far this indoor season. We’ve had quite a few injuries, but we have plenty of time to get healed up before our Conference meet. All in all, I’m really happy to be back here at school with all my friends, and to get one step closer to that diploma!
