Exploring Church Careers!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

We have [had] (date change to Fall 2009) an event coming up once again this year and it’s always an exciting time at CSP with the fun activities! This event is known as EXPLORING CHURCH CAREERS!!!!!!! It is also a time to reflect on this school year and the things accomplished - figuring out where our lives are headed.

One of the exciting opportunities I had last year was to show the students attending Exploring Church Careers what life is all about at Concordia! Here’s a snapshot of “Exploring the Cities!”

Well, That’s Interesting… Episode III

There is no “L” in Woves…
The Minnesota Timberwolves have one of the worst records in the NBA…and as it turns out, they also have the worst spelling. Last month, the Timberwolves sponsored a “Sam Mitchell Appreciation Night” in honor of their team’s first star. It was also “Reading to Succeed” night, which would turn out to be rather ironic. Prior to tip-off, the Wolves handed out posters of Mitchell wearing an a ‘Woves’ jersey. That’s right: WOVES…missing the L. The Timberwolves front offices gave out 10,000 posters of Sam Mitchell wearing a jersey that is misspelled. How a team that racks up more “L’s” than most in the league can forget that letter is difficult to understand.

Intramural Champs!

Friday, November 14th, 2008

The Concordia University intramural football season is now complete. On Sunday October 19th, four teams competed in the playoff finals to determine the overall champion. My team, the undefeated “Trackstars,” were going against the increasingly dominant “Why So Serious?” team. The game was rough and featured several heated arguments, but in the end only one team could be crowned the 2008 CU Intramural Football champs. The score remained tight until the final five minutes of play, when my team pulled ahead to take the title. The winning team consists of myself (captain Andy Wyss), fellow senior Tre Sayles, juniors Adam LeMay and Brian Kohlman, sophomores Kevin Koglin, Britt Bickert, and Andy Chaussee, DCE Intern (and my wife) Jayme Wyss, and alumni Joseph “Slim” Amundson. It was really great getting to play with all those guys. I love them all and wish the best of luck to everyone as the CU student body continues a successful intramural year.

Homecoming Ahead!

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

The 2008 Concordia University homecoming is just around the bend….this weekend, in fact. It seems like it’s going to be a busy weekend for everybody on campus. On Thursday, the theater students are hosting their annual “Shakespeare Under The Stars” reading. I’ve never gone to it in the past, but I might consider it this year, mostly because I designed the poster for it, and has peaked my interest. Then there’s a volleyball game on Friday, followed by a Saturday full of events. A special chapel, noon football game, alumni art exhibit, street fair/carnival, and another volleyball game to cap off the weekend. So, it should be a lot of fun! I am ending up having to work at most of the games, so I probably won’t get to enjoy all the festivities, but hopefully the rest of you do!

“Spring Break”

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Well this year’s Spring Break is fairly disappointing on many levels. First and foremost is the weather. It is certainly not Spring, nor does it feel like it. In fact, Spring Break is even earlier this year than most. Secondly, I’m stuck here on campus while everyone else is off enjoying their free week. The baseball, softball, and golf teams went to Florida, meanwhile the Track and Basketball teams are here getting ready for the upcoming games and meets. Speaking of which, our indoor conference track meet is this Friday and Saturday in Bemidji….wish me luck!

A Good Start To A New Semester…

Monday, February 4th, 2008

We are now four weeks into the second semester and things are very well so far! My classes haven’t really gotten hard yet, but I can see the work load a-coming! Myself and the track team have done really well so far this indoor season. We’ve had quite a few injuries, but we have plenty of time to get healed up before our Conference meet. All in all, I’m really happy to be back here at school with all my friends, and to get one step closer to that diploma!

Randomness

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

I want to wish a happy belated 21st birthday to Billy…I’m sure he partied hard (and is maybe still recuperating).
Anyway, summer has been going well thus far. CU’s Kawaskii Bacon had a great showing at the 2006 NCAA Track & Field championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. He represented Concordia well, and I’m proud of him.
I’m back home in Wisconsin, but I had to run back to Concordia to . . . (more…)

Conference Track Meet

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

The Golden Bears competed this weekend at the 2007 NSIC outdoor conference track meet in Moorhead, Minnesota. Both the men and women permormed above their expectations and did extremely well. The Men’s team won six events and finished fourth overall, while the women finished seventh. (more…)
