It’s not easy bein’ green

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

For the past two months, I’ve been leaping inside the mind and body of Leslie the Lizard from Edward Albee’s “Seascape.”

This production is completely run by students. Tara did all the set construction. Greta did the lighting design. Jo did the brilliant costumes. Colby got the sound. Bri and Alex shouted out our lines when we screw them up (which manages to happen ALL the time, but that’s how live theatre goes). Rebekah managed to hone in on what’s going on and why the characters are saying what they’re saying. I’m astounded by this process. And for three nights, at about 100 minutes each time, all of those elements swirl together for the story. (more…)

All That Jazz

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

It’s spring break for Concordia students this week. I know, it’s the end of February…. BUT the snow is melting. It’s a bit cooler today, but I can live with anything above 20 degrees. Seriously, this has been a tried and true winter.

Anyway, this past weekend, my fellow members of Vox 9 and I traversed south for Creston, Iowa. We were attending the 11th annual vocal jazz festival at SWCC (Southwestern Community College). (more…)

I’ll crawl out from under the rock now

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Not to worry, I have returned.
The end of the semester (last year) was a fun swirl of busy-ness. Now I’m adjusting to the spring semester 2008.

It’s SUPER TUESDAY (have you/will you caucus?)!!!

I don’t want to make this extremely long (because I have some homework to attend to), but I’ll give a bit of a breakdown of what my semester entails.

CLASSES
Fiction Writing
Playwriting
Directing
Theatre History I
Lighting and Sound Design
Dance
Choir

(Okay, so I have a lot of classes, but I truly love them all)

OTHER STUFF
News editing for “The Sword”
Acting in “Seascape” and “Pirates of Penzance”
Vox 9 Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Paying my rent every month

Am I in over my head? Not quite, but I’m sure I’ll be flirting with that possibility throughout this semester.

I’m really starting to get sick of the snow and winter.

QUESTION:
Anyone seen any good movies lately?

News, news, news–a coffee rush update

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Coffee is one of those strange things. It’s really not the greatest thing for my throat and voice, especially with performances coming up for “Into the Woods.” But I do have a jolt of energy this morning while I’ve been working at Alumni Relations and sorting through my e-mails, the news, and my Script Analysis homework.

Speaking of the news, Concordia is nearing the end of a two-week pilot of the USA Today’s Collegiate Readership program. (more…)

Here we go…

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

It’s the middle of the semester (well, past the semester actually). I’m sitting in the middle of an “Into the Woods” rehearsal right now. We open in two weeks! I highly encourage all to attend this unique show. We open Nov. 15 and run through the 18th of Nov. The Thurs, Fri, Sat shows are at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday show is a 2:00 p.m. matinĂ©e.

It’s nearly been a month since I’ve written in this thing, and a lot has happened. (more…)

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Let’s see. It’s been a while. I can’t keep track of everything anymore.
I’ve had on my to-do list to write a posting for the past week, and here I am. I don’t feel like writing much, but there’s a lot to update. (more…)

I’m back…school’s just around the corner

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I’m so sorry to be gone for the past two weeks! But I ended up being really crazy and jumping on tour with Phantom Regiment for the final stretch. I’ve been gushing about this activity all summer. I don’t expect you to understand how much this activity means to me.

So I’ll explain that and give another list of what I’m excited for as school starts up. (Good idea, Billy) (more…)

OK!

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

So this summer is absolutely crazy busy. I’ve been having a blast, but it’s been more draining than I would’ve imagined. Most of this is due to the beast that is known as “Oklahoma!” The final show is this afternoon. My call is just over an hour from now, and then it’ll be time to put the cowboy hat and boots away. “It’s a pungent artichoke”

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Caution, this is long, but it’s chock-full of good stuff and hopefully some multi-media if I can figure it all out.

I’m on lunch break at good ol’ Alumni Relations, and my boss allowed me to have some great Pizza Luce leftovers. The pizza is amazing and has some pretty crazy options. Anyway, there are giant artichokes on this particular pizza, and it’s a little too much for me (hence the title of the entry).

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go to Pizza Luce. Anyone who goes to Concordia is a short walk from this great place (plus it’s open until 2a.m.) For you incoming freshmen, you can have great pizza AND study for an Old Testament final at the same time! (more…)
